DA workers initiate 'Sell for a Cause' to aid small agri org

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Aug 10 (PIA) – Employees of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Unit 2 here have sold the different fruits and vegetables harvested from their “Gulayan sa Opisina Project” through their “Sell for a Cause” project to bring assistance and help small agricultural organizations in the region.

Regional Executive Director Narciso Edillo said the "Gulayan sa Opisina " encourages government offices to have their own garden in their own offices as alternative sources of fresh fruits and vegetables that will help in the attainment of food sufficiency during this pandemic.

Nine divisions, including the Office of the Regional Executive Director (ORED) and offices under it are competing for the best "Gulayan sa Opisina" Search, using recycled materials and observing pesticide safe protocol while excess harvests were sold during the one-day exhibit in this city.

Edillo said with DA as the implementer of the Plant Plant Plant Program (PPPP), its employees must personally dip their hands and practice the program.

Small spaces in every division were converted into a small garden which turned out to be productive.

Cayetano Tuddao, local media practitioner here said “Sulit ang 100 pesos ko kasi ang dami kong nabili” , showing six packs of assorted vegetables for his ‘pinakbet’  for only P15 pesos for a more or less a kilo per pack.

Menawhile, DA recently recognized top 5 performing agencies in the "Gulayan sa Opisina" Project, namely the regional offices of Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Philippine Marines.
