DILG reports 4,574 LSIs  from CAR assisted thru inter-agency efforts

BAGUIO CITY, Aug. 6(PIA) - - The Department of the Interior and Local Government reported that 4,574 locally stranded individuals (LSIs) in the Cordillera Region were assisted by inter – agency efforts to date.

Of the registered LSIs, 2,649 are inbound or going home to the region, 821 outbound, and 1,104 traveling within CAR.  A total of 4,411 LSIs have already gone back to their residences while 163 are on-process.

The province of Abra has the most LSIs with 1,388,  followed by Ifugao with 985, Baguio City with 682, Benguet with 549, Mountain Province with 536, Kalinga with 236 and Apayao with 198.

The DILG-CAR that leads the Cordillera Regional Task Force COVID – 19 sub – task group for LSIs,   also reported  that 102 LSIs are also assisted back to the region   under the Hatid Tulong Program of the Office of the President. They arrived in two batches last July 6 – 7 and July 26 – 28.

Kevin Brett of the DILG – CAR shared that the program for sending the LSIs home will continue and that the government, including DILG, is thankful to the efforts of all the agencies and local government units in assisting LSIs to reach their respective provinces/residences.

He also reiterated DILG’s reminder to both LGUs and LSIs the importance of implementing and abiding with the necessary health and safety protocols especially if the LSIs are coming from COVID hotspots.

“They should observe all the necessary protocols on triaging and disinfection to prevent any possible infection from the COVID disease. Likewise, LSIs are also reminded to abide with all the health protocols established by the Department of Health and the receiving LGU,” Brett stressed.

The DILG – CAR maintains close coordination with LGUs through a desk officer assigned from the regional to provincial and city/municipal level to ensure proper coordination and assistance to LSIs  as well as  returning overseas Filipinos.
