DOLE 11 continues assistance to unemployed workers

DAVAO CITY, August 3 (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE XI) is sustaining its efforts in assisting the labor sector of Region XI who has recently lost its source of employment because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Based on termination reports submitted to DOLE XI, as of July 15 there are currently 10,651 workers who were terminated from their respective jobs from 510 establishments in Region 11.

With the given data, DOLE XI has observed that there is a significant increase in unemployment compared to June. Majority of unemployed workers come from the administrative and support service companies which includes business processing outsourcing, manpower agencies and security agencies.

Because of this, the Regional Director for DOLE XI Ofelia Domingo discussed the efforts that they are undertaking to assist the labor sector who has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As of now we still have a regular program which is the TUPAD [Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers] regular … and the DOLE integrated livelihood program,” Domingo said.

Under the COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) of DOLE XI there are already 32,726 workers from 3,197 companies in Region XI who have received a total of P163 million in financial assistance.

Domingo also discussed that DOLE XI has submitted proposals to help further their efforts in assisting unemployed workers in the Region.

“We requested for funding from Manila since we have proposals that will benefit those who were affected … we are currently waiting for funding for the proposals to push through,” Domingo added. (PIA XI/KPLCaro)
