SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur, August 5 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Ilocos Sur Provincial Office awarded livelihood start-up kits to the 25 beneficiaries of the Pangkabuhayan sa pagBangon at Ginhawa (PBG) program here on July 30.
Each beneficiary received a sari-sari store package worth Php10, 000.00 for their retail business.
DTI-Ilocos Sur Provincial Director Grace Lapastora, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member (SPM) and Committee on Tourism Chairman Virginia “Gina” Cordero-Pe Benito, and San Ildefonso Mayor Christian Daniel “Basi” A. Purisima led the said distribution.
Prior to the awarding, DTI conducted an entrepreneurship seminar to equip the participants with proper entrepreneurial mind-set and skills to enable them to effectively manage their respective retail businesses.
DTI’s PBG aims to provide opportunities to existing and potential Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to mitigate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic by providing livelihood start-up kits and conducting entrepreneurial capability building activity for the beneficiaries.
“Take good care of this blessing, allow it to grow so that it may somehow help you in your daily needs. Not everyone is given this kind of opportunity,” told Mayor Purisima to the participants.
San Ildefonso is the 11th municipality in the province to have benefited from the program.
On behalf of Gov. Ryan Luis V. Singson, SPM Cordero-Pe Benito read the message of Gov. Singson to the beneficiaries and expressed the gratitude of the provincial government to the DTI for its unending support in empowering entrepreneurs in the province.
“You are lucky that you have been chosen as beneficiaries of DTI’s PBG. We, at the provincial government of Ilocos Sur always think of your welfare. It is always our goal to uplift the quality of lives of our provincemates. We thank the DTI for their all-out support to this goal through the PBG,” she said.
She also announced that Singson has approved the suggestion of the Committee on Tourism to provide affordable loans to help MSMEs sustain their business activity during the onset of COVID-19.
“We would like to inform everyone that Governor Ryan Singson has approved our suggestion of providing affordable loans to help our MSMEs sustain their business activity during these trying times. We initially suggested Php2 million but our good governor has increased the funding to Php5 million to include our returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who lost their jobs during the pandemic as beneficiaries,” she said.
The fund will be handed over to the Nueva Segovia Consortium of Cooperatives, partner of the provincial government, for its implementation.
“MSMEs and returning OFWs can borrow up to Php50,000 with minimal interest and service charge,” she added. (JCR/JPD/JMQ, PIA Ilocos Sur)
