CALOOCAN CITY, Aug. 18 (PIA) -- President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Monday night placed Metro Manila and four nearby provinces back under lighter general community quarantine (GCQ) from Aug. 19 until the month-end.
During his public address, Duterte approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and placed Metro Manila Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal under GCQ after a two-week timeout for the medical frontline workers.
The President also announced that the following areas would be placed under GCQ, while the most relaxed lockdown level of modified GCQ is hoisted over the rest of the country until the end of the month:
1. Metro Manila
2. Bulacan
3. Cavite
4. Laguna
5. Rizal
6. Batangas
7. Nueva Ecija
8. Quezon
9. Cebu City Iloilo City
10. Iloilo City
11. Lapu Lapu City
12. Mandaue City
13. Talisay City
14. Municipality of Consolacion, Cebu
15. Municipality of Minglanilla, Cebu
Duterte also reminded the public to follow the protocols set by the IATF-EID to stem COVID-19 spread.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque said the IATF has set conditions before recommending for Metro Manila and the four nearby provinces to be reverted back to GCQ.
“Kinakailangan buksan po natin ang ekonomiya sabay po yung tinatawag nating—refresh,” Roque said.
“Ire-refresh po natin ang responses natin sa COVID, kasama na po diyan yung maigting na testing,” he added.
As of Monday, Aug. 17, the total number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines climbed to 164,474, after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed at least 3,314 new cases.
Metro Manila, on the other hand, reported a total of 91,934 COVID-19 cases with 62,801 recoveries and 1,247 fatalities.
The DOH said 86% of newly reported cases occurred in the last 14 days, with Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and CALABARZON among the regions with the most number of new cases. (PIA NCR)
