Iloilo City celebrates 83rd Charter Day

ILOILO CITY, Aug. 25 (PIA) - - Today, August 25, is a special non-working day in Iloilo City as it celebrates its 83rd Charter Day with the theme “Ilonggos at the Forefront of the New Normal.”

The Charter Day celebration was declared a holiday through Proclamation No. 999 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on Tuesday, August 24, and was released on the same day.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Iloilo be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to community quarantine, social distancing and other public health measures,” said Medialdea in the proclamation.

Mayor Jerry TreƱas, in a radio interview, said a virtual activity was organized to mark the celebration to ensure the safety of everyone amid the coronavirus disease pandemic.
