TUBOD, Lanao del Norte, Aug. 6 (PIA) - Wanting to preserve and sustain the unique cultural heritage of the Maranao in Lanao del Norte, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Paglingkawas Women Federation (PAWFED), a nonprofit organization, has designated a place inside the Pasalubong Center to promote the Maranao weaving tradition.
This will also showcase the traditional handloom weaving device used to create blankets and serve as a hub for the younger generations to learn the intricate and beautiful handcrafting technique, as well as, appreciate the history and continue the rich and colorful Maranao tradition in the coming years.
Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo visited on August 4 the Pasalubong Center to personally see the traditional weaving device and witnessed the demonstration of weaving a blanket made from Inaul fabric.
This endeavor primarily aims to develop cloth weaving production and help local weavers of Poona Piagapo to increase their livelihood skills capabilities in traditional weaving and create viable and sustainable business opportunities within their community.
The Provincial Government, DOLE, and PAWFED will do its best to provide the necessary assistance to increase the production of local weavers.
Such assistance includes the provision of an advance or highly technical cloth weaving machine and other equipment, technical assistance through product design development and enhancement training on cloth weaving, the conduct of basic entrepreneurial skills for local weavers, and provision of start-up capital and training facilities for the local weavers.
Governor Dimaporo was happy and proud that the traditional weaving was preserved and continued in the Municipality of Poona Piagapo and being handed down for the next generation to carry on such an amazing and fascinating Maranao cultural heritage. (PIO-LDN/PIA ICIC)
