MDRRMC Tubod goes online with Vlog tilt

ILIGAN CITY, Aug. 6 (PIA) - The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) of the Municipality of Tubod in Lanao del Norte recently concluded its first-ever Disaster Resiliency Vlog Contest which ran from July 25 to July 31.

Xia Lorraine Alegado, 6, from Brgy. Poblacion won first place under the 'What is inside your Go/Emergency Bag?' category. Xia's video showed a witty, charming little girl, showing viewers what is inside her Go Bag – simulating a grocery scene. She imitated a scene at the checkout counter of a grocery store, showing each item needed in case of emergency then tagging it with a hair blow dryer as a price barcode gun

Xia Lorraine Alegado, 6, from Poblacion, Tubod, Lanao del Norte, won first place under the 'What is inside your Go/Emergency Bag?' category.

Xia’s entry outweighed competitors through its content, originality, and style, beating 13 other participants in the same category.

Mc Jeeson and Kathe Christine Olavides also won in the 'What are your pandemic budgeting tips?' and 'What is your home quarantine routine?' categories, respectively.

The Disaster Resiliency Vlog Contest is one of the component activities for the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2020 celebration of the Local Government Unit of Tubod designed to raise awareness and promote proactive engagements in the new normal.

This was conceptualized by MDRRM Officer Vicmar P. Paloma with the support of the MDRRM Council headed by Mayor Leoncio C. Bagol.

Paloma said the concept’s inspiration and innovation came from online competitions at the national level NDRRMC and OCD which had online spoken poetry competition and video challenges in celebration of the NDRM 2020.

“Annually, we have a month-long celebration for the NDRM, however, due to restrictions brought about by this pandemic, wala mi nakahimo ug activities (we could not stage activities), the council decided to go online, anchoring on our Information Education Campaign program, my office proposed that the activity would be a Vlog contest,” said Paloma.

Contest winners of each category will receive certificates and cash prizes of P6,000.00, P4,000.00, and P2,000.00 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively.

“We empower every member of the family to get involved in disaster resiliency programs because risk reduction and climate change adaptation begin at home. I am happy that this contest was launched," said Mayor Bagol.

Beautyrose Gandarosa, Patricia Jade and Justify Marie Mojado were voted as People's Choice Award in their respective categories for garnering the most number of 'Love' reactions on Facebook.  They will also receive P1,500.00 cash each with certificates.

The entry of Prinz Cyrus Christiani Fuentes was given Special Citation with a cash prize of P3,000.00 for its cinematic excellence and the video's attempt to cause vigilance, especially during this health crisis.

Paloma said the contest entries turnout was “overwhelming” with more than 10 entries each category.

"One of our gains also is the number of reach of our official Facebook page.  We now have 11,299 followers from a little over 10,000 before the launch. It added audiences for us, labi na karon nga thru social media mas more effective ang mga IEC campaign (especially now that it is through social media where IEC campaigns are more effective)," he added.

The MDRRMC of Tubod, Lanao del Norte is now planning to institutionalize the competition and bring about the addition of more categories, including a professional category, annually. (Shaun Alejandrae Y. Uy/PIA-10)
