NEDA6 enjoins public to cooperate, be counted in Census 2020

ILOILO CITY, Sept. 1 (PIA) -- The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in Western Visayas enjoined the public to cooperate and provide the appropriate information to enumerators of the 2020 Census on Population and Housing which is starting this month.

In a virtual presser, Ro-Ann Bacal, NEDA-6 regional director, said that the nationwide census will provide a “general picture of the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population, housing, the households, barangays, cities, municipalities, provinces and regions of the country.”

“We would like to enjoin every individual, especially the heads of the households, and every institution to actively participate and be counted as among the population or people of Western Visayas,” she said.

She added that the nationwide census will include the collection, consolidation, evaluation, and analysis of aggregate data.

“All these information are important when we do planning, when we need to substantiate issues for policy reforms, when we formulate programs, design projects, when evaluating proposals for financing and monitoring the progress of plans, programs and projects, or simply when preparing for socio-economic profiles,” Bacal said.

She said the census will provide not just government but also the private sector with data and statistics for decision-making.

Meanwhile, Marlene Alviar, Regional Statistical Services Office-6 officer-in-charge, said that 9,819 enumerators, team supervisors, and area supervisors will be deployed to do the census in the region.

The census will be implemented using four modalities including face-to-face interview, phone interview, web-based, and self-administered questionnaire. (JSC/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
