Parañaque LGU imposes liquor ban as city goes under MECQ

PARAÑAQUE CITY, Aug. 4 (PIA) -- Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez has ordered the prohibition of selling and serving alcohol within the city starting today.

The Parañaque City chief executive immediately issued Executive Order No. 2020-047 on Monday after President Rodrigo Duterte approved to place Metro Manila from general community quarantine (GCQ) to a more stricter modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from August 4 to August 18, 2020 to heed the call of medical frontline workers to tighten the quarantine classification of the National Capital Region.

Under the directive, all business establishments with permit to manufacture, distribute, sell, and serve alcoholic drinks are not allowed to do so, as city issued Liquor Licence is suspended.

The suspension of permits will be effective until August 18, 2020, or until the MECQ is lifted in the city.

According to Olivarez, liquor and other intoxicating beverage are not classified under basic necessities.

The mayor also warned that alcoholic beverage may encourage gathering of individuals that is also strictly prohibited based on the health protocols.

All establishments that are found to be in violation of the EO will face appropriate penalties and sanctions. (PIA-NCR)
