PhilHealth-7 reports P52-M worth of claims for COVID-19

CEBU CITY, Aug. 7 (PIA) -- The Philippine Health Insurance Incorporation (PhilHealth) in Central Visayas reported that since February 1, 2020, a total of P52-M in payment coverage related to COVID-19 has been released in the region.

This was disclosed by Dina Cinchez, regional public information officer of Philhealth-7, during the Straight from the Source interview conducted by the Philippine Information Agency 7.

Cinchez said the amount covers 369 hospitalization and 5,909 testing claims in the entire region.

“The big chunk of this amount is on the confinement claims of our members, who needed to be hospitalized due to COVID-19 as diagnosed by our physicians,” she said.

She added that PhilHealth’s coverage of hospitalization due to COVID-19 ranges from P43,000 up to P700,000, depending on the severity of the patient’s case.

Cinchez clarified that for the testing coverage, only members who qualify under the Department of Health’s Guidelines on Expanded COVID-19 Testing may be covered by PhilHealth.

These are patients or healthcare workers with mild to severe/critical symptoms with either relevant history of travel or close contact with COVID-19 positive patients.

This also includes vulnerable populations like the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions that predispose them to severe complications of COVID-19.

Cinchez stressed that members who fall under the said conditions must be tested only in DOH accredited testing centers.

In Central Visayas, the accredited testing centers are Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), Cebu TB Reference Laboratory, Primecare in Cebu City, Allegiant Regional Care (ARC) in Lapulapu City, and UC Medical Center in Mandaue City.

“Our coverage for our members' hospitalization and testing for COVID-19 and full coverage for our confined medical health workers, including allied health workers in public and private hospitals, shall continue as long as our country is under a National State of Public Health Emergency,” Cinchez assured.

Meanwhile, Cinchez encouraged PhilHealth members to course their concerns via PhilHealth's official email address or through the PhilHealth Region 7 official Facebook page for faster and convenient transactions.

Members are also encouraged to pay their membership obligations via accredited banks and bayad centers. (jktm/PIA7)
