MARIVELES, Bataan, Aug. 8 (PIA) -- Mariveles is under a municipal-wide “Modified Lockdown” for 48 hours from 12:00AM of August 8 to 12:00AM of August 10.
In an executive order signed by Mayor Jocelyn Castañeda, Modified Lockdown is defined as “the municipal-wide stricter implementation of all existing ordinances, resolutions and executive orders during the period of National Health Emergency, engaging the extensive participation of the local Philippine National Police, Municipal Public Safety Office, and the barangay police of the 18 barangays of the municipality.”
Castañda said they will strictly prohibit residents of ages below 21 years old and 60 years and above, and also those with health risks and pregnant women to go outside of their homes.
“We will only allow Authorize Persons Outside Residences to go outside such as frontliners, government workers and officials, Freeport Area of Bataan workers, workers in industries permitted by IATF, public transport workers, and persons securing emergency of essential goods or services,” she stressed.
The mayor explained that they will not close any establishments during the two-day lockdown period but will just strictly implement existing quarantine measures as number of confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases surged in the town over the previous days.
She also reiterated that travel and quarantine passes will still be in effect and shall be used to be permitted to go outside including to the public market.
“Please, if it’s not your schedule to go the market, don’t go. Even after the lockdown, market schedule will still be effective so there’s no reason to rush,” Castañeda reminded market goers as she assured that the marketplace will be open during the Modified Lockdown period.
The local chief executive clarified that the lockdown is not similar to the Enhanced Community Quarantine, explaining that they will just strictly ensure that existing protocols under the Modified General Community Quarantine will be followed by residents, and violators will be apprehended with penalties or rendering community service.
Authorities will be presently visible during the period to assure that all residents will comply with safety and health protocols such as wearing of face masks and follow the curfew hours from 8:00PM to 5:00AM.
Also, strategic checkpoints will be put up in all entrance and exit point of barangays to be manned by the barangay personnel, Public Safety Office and PNP to ensure that strict implementation of the lockdown.
As of Friday, Mariveles has 40 active confirmed cases. Overall, 87 confirmed cases were already recorded in the town, wherein 45 patients have recovered while 2 died. (CLJD/MJSD-PIA 3)
