BORONGAN CITY, Aug. 26 (PIA)-- The Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), funded by the Congressional district office of Representative Maria Fe R. Abunda, benefitted some 167 Boronganons where each of them received P3,250.
The said assistance is a government support to communities during this health crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
TUPAD beneficiaries worked in their own homes for 10 days, cleaning and sanitizing their homes, as they have finished their job, they were then given their wages amounting to P3,250 each based on the prevailing highest minimum wage in the region for the private sector.
On August 25, some 71 TUPAD beneficiaries from barangays Canjaway, Tamoso, Bugas and Sta. Fe. were given the money.
One of the beneficiaries was Vanessa Cainto Sabenecio, 40 years old from Barangay Canjaway who has three children.
She is a “kakanin” vendor and her sales dropped due to the COVID-19 pandemic since some of her customers lost their jobs.
"I am very grateful to the DOLE for the TUPAD assistance and to our Congresswoman Ma. Fe R. Abunda for funding the said program and for the City Government through Mayor Agda who made this possible for us displaced workers," Vanessa said.
TUPAD is a short-term emergency employment program of DOLE to mitigate the impact of calamities, disasters and epidemics.
It provided emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers. (nbq/rdt/PIA-E.SAMAR)
