Kalinga students benefit from DOST's STARBOOKS online

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Aug. 26 (PIA) – Students in the province find ready source of research material this time of the COVID-19 pandemic  with the Science and Technology Academic and Research- Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STARBOOKS)  online of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).  

DOST-Kalinga Head Jasmin Donaal  said DOST explained the move of   opening  online access to its  STARBOOKS is aligned with COVID-19 health protocols where students are kept from getting exposed outside.

Here, the STARBOOKS digital library could be accessed through the STARBOOKS.ph website or the downloaded STARBOOKS app so students need not go to STARBOOKS kiosks in the schools.

The program is great help to the research needs of students, teachers and the public this school year 2020-2021 when there is no face-face class, Donaal noted.

The online STARBOOKS contains updated software on livelihood videos, disaster mitigation, educational videos, library materials, DOST documentaries, interactive science-math course, DOST technology, publications, encyclopedia, Philippine women and men and K-12 material.

Since the start of the program in 2015, at least 29 schools in the province received the digitized library materials.

The STARBOOKs program promotes capability building towards increased appreciation of science and technology and innovation culture. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)

DOST has provided STARBOOKS facility to at least 29 schools in the province as answer to students'  need of research materials in areas in the country like the Cordillera.
