5ID supports anti-ASF initiatives of Isabela

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, Sept. 28 (PIA) - The 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army based in Gamu town has expressed its support to the Provincial Government of Isabela in the fight against Africa Swine Fever (ASF). 

 Army Maj. Jekyll Julian Dulawan, OIC Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) chief of 5ID, PA, said they have conducted disinfection to 2,099 - infected pig pens of 29 -affected barangays in the province through the army division’s blow torch Team. 

 He said that as of September 26, 2020, the ASF outbreak affected the hog industry in Isabela with 6,271 culled and 1,953 surrendered pigs.

“The 5ID, PA under the leadership of B/Gen. Laurence Mina will continue supporting the Provincial Government’s anti-ASF drive to bring back the normalcy in the hog industry of the province,” Dulawan said.

 Meanwhile, Provincial Veterinary Officer Dr. Angelo Naui said that his office is continuously addressing the ASF problem in Isabela with the strict implementation of checkpoints within the province's  boundaries to ensure that the entry of  safe meat products are monitored regularly.

He said  the  implementation of local ordinances relative to butchering regulations is also being done to stop the ASF infection in Isabela. (BME/MGE - PIA-2/Isabela)
