Active COVID-19 cases in NegOr down to 7

DUMAGUETE CITY, Aug. 28 (PIA) -- Negros Oriental’s active COVID-19 cases count decreased to seven as of today.

Speaking in a press briefing held today, Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion disclosed the number of active cases dwindled as 12 recoveries were reported today.

From the total, six are from Sta. Catalina, three from Sibulan, one from Zamboanguita, and two from Bindoy.

Their swab tests results were among the 190 swab tests results released by the Covid-19 testing laboratory in Cebu City on Aug. 26 and Aug. 27.

Aside from the 12 recoveries, Estacion also announced 188 test results came back negative while four of the results are positive for COVID-19 infection.

Out of the four positive patients, only three are new confirmed cases while the other one is a repeat swab with still positive result.

The COVID-19 patient who had a repeat swab positive is the wife and direct contact of an earlier reported Covid-19 case in Bindoy town.

Meanwhile, the three new cases are logged in Sibulan town.

They are a family of foreign nationals who reside in Sibulan but were stranded in Manila.

Estacion explained the family already took their RT PCR tests before flying back to the province and the result of their swab tests were negative.

The family then took another round of confirmatory test upon their return to the province.

Swab samples were collected from them on Aug. 25 and the results of the swab tests came out on Aug. 27.

They are now placed in the isolation facility designated by the Municipal Government of Sibulan.

As of Aug. 24, the province logged 123 total cases with 17 active cases but with the recent update, Negros Oriental’s total COVID-19 cases are now at 126 with seven active cases, four mortalities, and 115 recoveries. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
