LGU Borongan starts CBMS survey to determine socio-economic conditions in barangays

BORONGAN CITY, Sept. 1 (PIA) -- The City planning and Development Office (CPDO) started a Community Based Monitoring System (CBMS) survey on August 17, 2020 in Borongan City.

This according to Engr. Jose Jovanny Mercado, City Planning and Development Officer II who said that CBMS data have been very useful in identifying the socio-economic condition of every household in every barangay.

The survey started in barangays Bugas, Can-aga and Sta. Fe. Engr. Mercado disclosed that CBMS serves as the comprehensive database from the grassroots level, through the eight indicators such as health, nutrition, housing, water and sanitation, basic education, income, employment and peace and order.

Mercado further said that for the City of Borongan, all information that will be generated from the CBMS survey will be put in the database and will be used as basis in the implementation of programs, projects and other activities identified and prioritized in the City.

He added that to gather information will take four months. All 61 barangays will be surveyed by enumerators for every household to answer the CBMS survey.

“The City had been providing and extending its support for the project, because they know the outputs of the survey conducted by Local Government Units (LGUs) have been so precise and useful not only for the LGUs but also for other users,” Mercado said.

He further said that the CBMS survey is so far the best source of information for planners, project implementers and decision-makers.

Mercado assured that all information and data gathered from the household will be held confidential. He asked the public to participate in the CBMS survey.

On April 17, 2019, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Republic Act 11315 or otherwise known as An Act Establishing a Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS), a measure seeking to establish a CBMS to improve poverty analysis in the country. (nbq/sdc/PIA-E. Samar)
