Aklan logs 26 COVID-19 recoveries

KALIBO, Aklan, Sept. 6 (PIA) – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) here has recorded a total of 26 recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province of Aklan.

In its COVID-19 Health Advisory and Update dated September 4, 2020, Aklan recorded 33 confirmed cases, of which 26 had already recovered from the disease, and listed with one casualty due to the said virus.

As reported, the active cases of the province are down to six and all are currently quarantined in the facility established and identified by the respective municipalities of the patients.

Most of the patients are asymptomatic and considered mild COVID-19 cases that local govenment units (LGUs) are empowered to handle with.

To date, the province has the lowest number of COVID cases in Western Visayas based on the recent COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin issued by the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development.

Meanwhile, Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores urged local chief executives to expand the existing temporary quarantine and isolation facilities of each LGU considering the influx of Overseas Filipino workers and returning residents who were stranded in other places.

Such step, according to the governor, could help in not straining the isolation facilities as well as the health personnel of the province.

This will also allow effective management of COVID-19 patients and could produce more and faster recoveries or mitigate the spread of the virus, he said.

PHO-Aklan said that no local transmission of coronavirus has occurred yet in the province but people should not be complacent.

The public is urged to maintain basic hygiene practices, observe physical social distancing, wear face masks and face shields, and wash hands regularly to stop the virus from spreading. (LTP/SQP/PIA-Aklan).
