Batanes records 1st COVID-19 case

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Sept 29 (PIA) - - The province of Batanes is no longer free from Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) at its first positive case was confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH) region 2 today.

In the report from the Health Education and Promotions Unit, the first case of the said island province is CV 1692, a 29-year-old male who is now residing at Basco town but a native of Itbayat town.

The said patient is a locally Stranded Individual (LSI) who had a travel history in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. He arrived in Basco Airport last September 22 via Philippine Airforce (PAF) plane along with 18 other passengers.

All of the passengers were subjected into swab test last September 27 in which CV1692's specimen sample turned positive of SARS COV2. 

Earlier, Governor Marilou H. Cayco said there were total of 35 LSIs and Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR), including the passengers of the PAF aircraft, who were subjected to swab testing as two of the passengers were observed to have symptoms of COVID-19.

Cayco also said all of the LSIs and APORs arriving in their province are required to undergo 14 days quarantine while the positive patient is now being isolated.

The Provincial Health Office of the said province is still awaiting for the results of other specimen sample test results sent at the COVID-19 laboratories here in the city.

Batanes was the only province in the country which remains to be COVID-19 free in the past seven months. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
