DUMAGUETE CITY, Sept. 26 (PIA) -- Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go offered assistance to 30 families hit by a fire Thursday in Brgy. Junob, this city.

The affected residents received food packs, surgical masks, vitamin C, face shields, and P2,000 cash assistance for each affected family.

Others received bicycles (through a raffle draw) and meals.

In a video call, Go assured the fire victims of his support amid the tragedy.

Dumaguete City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) also served food and relief packs to the affected families, while the City Health Office provided medical assistance and temporary shelter.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said the families whose houses were totally damaged will each receive  P10,000 as financial aid from the city government, while those whose houses were partially damaged will receive P5,000, and renters with P2,500.

Remollo expressed his gratitude to the senator as well as Cong. Manuel Sagarbarria, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Red Cross, and other organizations for helping the families who lost their homes in the fire.

Remollo said he and the barangay officials of Junob led by Punong Barangay Maximino Umbac will negotiate with the owners of the lot so that it will now be acquired by the city government in partnership with the National Housing Authority to provide new houses to the fire-hit families.

No serious injuries and fatalities were reported, but the estimated cost of damage was pegged at P200,000.

CSWDO Lilibeth Filipinas said used clothing, blankets and food packs were also sent to the victims and a food station was also set up to distribute meals to the affected residents after the fire was put out. (jct/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
