TACLOBAN CITY, September 7, (PIA) -- The Civil Service Commission 8 (CSC-8) has started its activities in the region in line with the celebration of the 120th Philippine Civil Service Month this September. This is per Presidential Proclamation No. 1050 of 1997, declaring the month of September as Philippine Civil Service Month.
“We are celebrating the Philippine Civil Service Month because we believe it is just right to give recognition to the services of the 1.7 million government employees in the country, and we also have to shout to the world that it is an honor to serve the government,” CSC-8 Regional Director Victoria Esber said during the “Suruswerte ha PIA” radio program hosted by PIA-8 Regional Director Olive Tiu.
The CSC anniversary has been celebrated since 1900, and for this year, it has the theme, “Philippine Civil Service at 120: Public Sector in the Age of Digital Transformation.
The said occasion has four weekly celebrations. The first week was considered as the Lingkod Bayan Week, where virtual press conferences and virtual PCSA campaigns have been conducted in efforts to promote the anniversary activities and highlight the hard work of government workers in public service.
The second week celebration on the other hand, has been set to focus on public sector human resource programs, geared to empower not only the Human Resource practitioners, but the whole government workforce, as well. This has been tagged as the Linggo ng Yamang Tao, highlighting the Online Photography Contest.
Week three of the celebration is known as the Linggo ng Malasakit, focusing on social responsibility initiatives; while the last week of September is considered as the Linggo ng Pasasalamat. This is the time when government officials and employees are given recognition for their exemplary services. A virtual family day has been scheduled on this week.
Director Esber during the program has also emphasized to all government workers to continue the pursuit for public service excellence, and has likewise encouraged the use of modern technologies in the delivery of services.
“We want to get modernized with the new technologies. The government is ready for this digital transformation because we have an e-government master plan version 2 for year 2016-2026, as spearheaded by the Department of Information and Communication Technology,” she said.
She added, “We can notice that some government offices are already applying online transactions especially during this pandemic time, so there is an immediate need to use the technology.”
As to the aborted March and August schedules of the Civil Service Eligibility Examinations, the director clarified that they have decided to suspend them, because they want to protect and ensure the health and wellness of the public, considering the health crisis the country is facing up to the present.
CSC Director Esber during the radio program, also disclosed that its office is very active in its Capacity Building activities as among the agency’s mandates, which she considers a notable contribution in the implementation of E.O 70, the Whole-of-Nation Approach to End Local Communist Armed Conflict or ELCAC.
“We need to enhance our competencies as well as our integrity. We have to clearly show to the leftist groups the services the government is offering, thereby gaining back their trust and encouraging them to return to the folds of the law. With this, we can together address the problem on insurgency,” according to Director Esber. (LDL/GTT/PIA-Leyte)
