SIQUIJOR, Sept. 18 (PIA) -- Education should never stop despite the COVID-19 pandemic, said Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Neri Ojastro during the turnover of learning equipment and facilities as he thanked the Provincial Government of Siquijor for their strong support and partnership.
DepEd here turned over 83 sets of television and Robotics kits from the Provincial Government of Siquijor on Sept. 14, 2020 to 19 secondary and 63 elementary schools in the province.
Stressing that education is also the responsibility of the entire community, Ojastro urged the beneficiaries to use the tools to what it is intended for — to shape, nurture and mold the learners that they become productive citizens in the future.
But molding them, he said, is like cooking using the “sug-ang” (trivet) or a three-legged stand for supporting a cooking vessel, which represents the three edifices of basic education: community, government, and school.
He said the tools are the spices for cooking or for molding the children, which if fired with the community and the schools’ noble intention and desire to help develop and hone the children, will bring success to the entire community.
“Let us work together. I know we are challenged with this pandemic but education has to continue and should never stop. Even teachers should continuously learn,” he said, while pointing out that learning can exist everywhere and should even be best attained with the cooperation of the parents and the community along with the necessary tools.
“If we can learn just by sitting, how much more if we have the tools, the television. How much more, if we are sheltered under the roof of our houses,” Ojastro said. (rac/PIA7-Siquijor)
