DOLE-7 releases over P4-M livelihood aid in Bohol

CEBU CITY, Sept. 16 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7) recently released livelihood assistance of over P4-M to more than 200 beneficiaries in the province of Bohol.

Beneficiaries are mostly farmers and fisherfolks from the six barangays of the municipality of Guindulman, a coastal town located in the southeastern part of the province.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome Siaton said from the six different barangays of Guindulaman, six associations also became the latest recipients of the DOLE livelihood program in the province.

In Looc, Guinacot, the Guinacot Fisherfolk Association received P950,000 for their All Season Fishing Project.

The 54 members of the association will soon be equipped with more advanced fishing gears that will help them increase their catch and augment their income.

Meanwhile, still for their All Season Fishing Project, the 54 members of the Isla Kuratan Fisher Folks Association (IKFA) in East Guinacot received a cash aid of P607,150.

The fish vendors in the neighborhood as well as the stalls located in the malls of the nearby towns are the potential buyers of their catch, added Siaton.

In Brgy. Central Lombog, the Lombog Tilapia Growers Association will soon engage with Tilapia Production after they received P323,115 financial assistance from DOLE.

According to Ricardo Escabusa, association representative, they are now excited to start operating their project.

He said they will be using their existing fish pond hoping that as soon as things are already set in place, they will be able to start selling fresh and quality fish in the community and to the adjacent towns.

For the Basdio Farmers and Fishermen Association in Brgy. Basdio, over 50 of their members are now preparing for the full operations of their Eco-Tourism (Diving Rental and Services) with P890,220 financial assistance they received from the DOLE.

According to DOLE Bohol Field Office OIC Maria Corazon Monroid, most of the members are already equipped with diving skills and diving license.

“Diving is one of the most promising economic activities in the area so this is seen as something that makes the project very feasible,” said Monroid.

In Purok 3, Guio-ang, another group, is set to venture into an undertaking which Teodoro Seroje, association representative, said is a promising business since they already have a direct market for their products.

The Guio-ang Agrarian Reform Community Beneficiary Cooperative will be engaging with Ginger Production and Processing and Marketing Enterprise and received P999,297 worth of livelihood funds from the DOLE.

The group is a proud partner of some of the most frequented malls and supermarkets not just in Guindulman but also in the neighboring municipalities.

On the other hand, the Kahugpungang Mamumuo Ug Gagmayng Mag-uuma Lumad sa Biabas (KAMAGAMALUB) in Brgy. Biabas will be venturing into Peanut Butter Processing and Marketing to augment their income by at least P4,000 per month.

Siaton said that DOLE, through its Regional Project Management Team (RPMT), ensures beneficiaries’ easy access to the department’s “Kabuhayan” program.

The livelihood assistance of DOLE aims to provide beneficiaries with additional inputs, implements, jigs, and materials for their respective livelihood projects.

"With this, we hope to help enhance their productivity and profitability, thereby, making their undertakings lasting,” said Siaton.

The local government unit of Guindulman acts as DOLE’s partner in the implementation of the projects of beneficiaries.

“As our partner, we expect them to help us ensure that the execution of these projects is done effectively and efficiently,” added Siaton. (hfg with report form DOLE-7)
