KALIBO, AKLAN, Sept. 12 (PIA) - Two sitios in Barangay Bakhaw Norte in Kalibo, Aklan are now placed on granular lockdown after two residents of said barangay were tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Based on the Executive Order No. 61 issued by Kalibo Mayor Emerson Lachica, granular lockdown in Sitio Ilaya and Libuton-B of Barangay Bakhaw Norte is imposed effective Friday, September 11 at 6:00 PM until such time it will be lifted.
According to Mayor Lachica, such move is necessary to prevent the imminent spread of the virus in the island barangay.
On September 10, the Provincial Health Office here confirmed the first case of local transmission of COVID-19 in Aklan because of the patient’s no known travel history and exposure to COVID-19 patients.
The said patient, who is a resident of Barangay Bakhaw Norte and a laboratory encoder at the Aklan Provincial Hospital, was tested positive for COVID-19 on September 7 and tagged as Case No. 34 of the province.
On September 9, another six positive cases were reported in the province and considered as the high-risk contacts of Case No. 34 having of the same workplace. One of them is also a resident of Barangay Bakhaw Norte.
Based on the initial report, contact tracing team from the Municipal Health Office, Barangay Health Emergency Response Team, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and COVID-19 Task Force, had identified 50 individuals who had been in close contacts with the two patients from Bakhaw Norte.
Under Executive Order No. 61, the residents are reminded to strictly stay at home and refrain from unnecessary travel in the duration of granular lockdown.
Only authorized persons outside of residence (APOR) and those persons who need immediate hospital care and management are allowed to enter and exit the areas, provided that health and safety measures should be strictly observed.
Lachica also extended the curfew hours in the whole barangay of Bakhaw Norte from the existing 9 PM to 5 AM to 6 PM to 6 AM.
The Municipal Government of Kalibo with the barangay council of Bakhaw Norte will be distributing food and medical needs to residents of the affected sitios during the lockdown.
Meanwhile, other areas not affected by the granular lockdown will be given one quarantine pass for every household by the barangay council to allow them to travel outside of the barangay to buy their basic necessities and other essential needs. (LTP/SQP/PIA Aklan)
