SAN FERNANDO City, Sept.12 (PIA) -- The local government of Balaoan imposes liquor ban anew as Mayor Aleli Concepcion issued Executive Order No. 2020-09-051 on Friday to impose again the prohibition of the purchase and consumption of any intoxicating drink in the municipality.
Said ordinance, which is immediately effective upon issuance, will serve as preventive measure to possibly control the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 since the recently recorded infections are associated with drinking activities.
“Lately, there had been an increase of COVID-19 cases in the municipality attributed to non-essential movements and social gatherings among people where drinking of intoxicating liquor usually occurs," said Mayor Concepcion in an official statement.
She further stated that, “Any person caught under the influence of alcohol may be held in custody until he attains sobriety, without prejudice to the filing of the appropriate case against him.”
The LGU consecutively logged three new COVID-19 positive cases for the past two days. Said patients had histories of exposure to a known COVID-19 patient who is a 20-year old male from Barangay Dr. Camilo Osias and is labelled as Patient No. 6.
Patient No. 6, based on the timeline of movement released by the municipal contact tracing team, attended some events days before he was confirmed positive on September 6.
Further, residents would only be allowed to drink liquor and any other intoxicating substances inside the confines of their homes.
Meanwhile, the municipality currently records nine COVID-19 cases of which four are active. (JCR/JND/CGC, PIA La Union)
