LANTAPAN, Bukidnon, Sept. 15 -- As there have been confirmed African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in Mindanao, the agriculture department in Northern Mindanao (DA-10) continues its call for the local government units’ (LGUs) support in intensifying their respective control measures against the spread of ASF in the region.
The LGU of Lantapan in the province of Bukidnon, through its Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), initiated an orientation on the dreaded disease among residents of barangay Bugcaon, in said town on Aug. 27.
Recognizing hog raising as an important source of income, the activity geared towards instilling cooperation of its populace to protect the livelihood of livestock farmers.
The MAO emphasized, among others, to avoid swill feeding to their raised hogs and refrain from bringing in pork and its by-products from ASF-affected areas, and to support livestock farmers by patronizing local hog meat and its by-products.
Serving as resource speakers for the activity were Bernido Miasco and Mario Alob, municipal livestock coordinators of Lantapan LGU. (MAO, Lantapan LGU/PIA Bukidnon)
