
PARANAQUE CITY, Sept. 11 (PIA) --The City Government of Las Piñas and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the construction of isolation facilities for frontliners and other health workers through the project “We Heal as One Offsite Dormitory for Medical Personnel” as part of the response in COVID-19 crisis.
The Agreement was sealed during the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) Team vvisit to the City on September 7, 2020.
The team, led by the Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar also provided inputs to the City Government on how to further improve the local services for its residents amidst the pandemic.
Members the National Task Force – CODE Team included Undersecretary Emil Sadain from the Department of Public Works and Highways, Undersecretary Marjorie Jalosjos of the DILG, Dr. Faith F. Alberto of the Department of Health (DOH), Dr. Eleanor Galvez of the National Task Force – National Incident Command, Dr. Paz Corrales of DOH NCR, and Michael Salalima of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA). They were joined by representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine National Police, and Philippine Navy.
The CODE Team shared their insights and practices of other LGUs. Jalosjos presented the good practices of Cebu City and Navotas City in response to the pandemic and encouraged local government units to strengthen and update their communication framework to establish stronger linkages.
Corrales provided an overview of the Operation L!sto Protocol for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. She also reminded the City Government of Las Piñas to include in its response to COVID-19 the implementation of mental health programs and projects.
Sadain commended the efforts of the city in combatting the threats of the virus and vowed that the national government will continuously respond to the needs of the LGU and will continue to support the local government of Las Piñas.
Alberto also praised the City’s 5Ks Core Priorities and the distribution of face masks for Las Piñeros whilst supporting the economic livelihood of the members of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI).
Galvez reminded the local government to sustain and continuously improve its efforts against COVID-19 and to never be complacent.
Salalima underscored the aspect of consistency in addressing the pandemic and ensured that additional testing kits from MMDA will be allocated to LGUs. He also announced that El Rancho Hotel in Tunasan, Muntinlupa, and Hacienda Isabela in Cavite, as isolation facilities, are now open for the use of LGUs including Las Piñas City.
The activity concluded with the virtual oath-taking of the Barangay Disiplina Brigade, participated by local officials and volunteers from the 20 barangays of Las Piñas, and the turnover of face masks and personal protective equipment (PPEs) from the DOH and DSWD. (PIA-NCR)
