NCCA calls for 2021 Competitive Grants Program proposals in E. Visayas

BORONGAN CITY, Sept 9 (PIA) --The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is calling on individuals, groups, and organizations from Eastern Visayas, the Samar-Leyte-Biliran area to submit their proposals for arts and culture projects that will be implemented next year.

The commission is now accepting project proposals for the 2021 Competitive Grants Program on or before September 30, 2020.

Charles Salazar, head of the cultural heritage section of NCCA appeared in a virtual presscon hosted by PIA Regional Director Olive Tiu on Tuesday.

Media personalities from Eastern Visayas, the PIA Provincial Information Center Managers (PICMs) and government Information Officers also joined the virtual presscon by asking questions relative to the grants program.

Salazar said that the grants program is open to non-government organizations, civil society organizations, local government units, national government agencies, state universities and colleges, and individuals.

The NCCA Competitive Grants Program is anchored on the Commission’s vision of A Filipino people with a strong sense of nationhood and deep respect for cultural diversity and aligned with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022: Chapter 7 on Culture (Promoting Philippine Culture and Values towards Bayanihan).

The NCCA Competitive Grants Program has three elements: Project-Based, eligible proponents such as Filipino citizens based in the Philippines, local government units, state universities and colleges, public schools, indigenous peoples’ organizations, peoples’ organizations, government agencies, and civil society organizations can apply by submitting a well-planned project proposal.

The competitive, approval of a project proposal passes through a rigorous and confidential evaluation process based on merit such as quality and relevance to Commission priorities; and Fund Transfer, approved projects are entitled to funding subject to applicable government accounting and auditing rules and regulations.

The programming of the competitive grants is based on the priorities identified by 19 national committees from the different fields of the culture and the arts and based primarily on the Philippine Development Plan for 2017-2022.

There are categories for publications of literary and cultural studies, visual arts, and research on central communities, among others.

Salazar said that NCCA is getting just a few proposals in the region, that is why the Commission is intensifying its campaign to get many project proposals.
