QUEZON CITY, Sept 30 (PIA) - The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), recently held the first part of the Webinar Series on Halal Education, Awareness and Capacity-Building for Stakeholders in the Province of Palawan entitled "Understanding Halal".
Members and Board of Directors of the Palawan Halal Development Council, Inc. -- a newly created non-government organization in the Province of Palawan; composed of representatives from the different sectors, namely, professionals, ulamah (body of Muslim religious scholars, chief religious authorities), women and community leaders -- attended the webinar and are working towards the following objectives:
1. To assist government agencies involved in the halal industry in safeguarding the credibility and integrity of Palawan halal-certified products and services;
2. To work harmoniously with government agencies and local/foreign halal organizations and entities;
3. To promote the importance of being a halal-certified product, service, and establishment;
4. To engage in awareness campaigns to educate, inform, and disseminate to the general public the health benefits of halal products.
NCMF-South Luzon Regional Director Ceazar Maranda gave a brief discussion on the potential of the halal industry in Palawan, especially the project on the establishment of Double-A Palawan Halal Abattoir/Slaughterhouse as proposed to the Provincial Government of Palawan.
Likewise, Dr. Ma. Josifina Abilay, Regional Director of DOST-MIMAROPA, once said that there is already a significant number of the Muslim population in the whole province; thus, participants could come from the food processing sector, and the restaurants operating in the city to cater to the needs of the Muslims by preparing Halal-certified food.
