CEBU CITY, Sept. 10 (PIA) -- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is holding a series of online activities to mark the observation of the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).
Activities for the 3rd quarter NSED this year will be done online in view of the issuance of Interim Guidelines on the conduct of NSED this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
An online Quiz Bee was held on Sept. 7, 2020 on the OCD Facebook page followed by a webinar on earthquake preparedness on Sept. 8, 2020, while a ceremonial pressing of the button will be done today (Sept. 10).
According to OCD, NSED aims to enhance disaster preparedness of communities through the regular conduct of drills and exercises.
NSED also tests the contingency plans of local disaster risk reduction and management councils.
The 1st quarter NSED this year was held on March 12, 2020 with Mandaue City chosen as the pilot area in Region 7. (rmn/PIA7)
