PLGU E. Samar offers interventions to vulnerable barangays

BORONGAN CITY, Sept. 2 (PIA) — The provincial government of Eastern Samar will soon offer government interventions to vulnerable barangays in the province after a needs assessment survey is done this month of September.

Gov. Ben Evardone activated the Provincial Poverty Alleviation Team (PPAT) and assigned Engr. Joselito B. Mutia, provincial employment and services office (PESO) manager to head the needs assessment team.

The team will do data gathering as this will be the basis in the implementation of appropriate programs, projects, activities and other interventions.

Mutia said Gov. Evardone activated the PPAT to assist in the augmentation acts in the Poverty Alleviation and Zero Hunger initiative of the province.

The team is responsible for the preparation and implementation of appropriate interventions answering the persistent problems of poverty and hunger throughout the province this time of pandemic and even beyond.

Engr. Mutia cited an example, in Brgy. Trinidad, Oras Eastern Samar, one of the far-flung barangays in Eastern Samar, the PPAT will assess the needed projects or the priority projects in that particular barangay. If the outcome or the priority project is water and sanitation as the most important project, the provincial government will coordinate with the Office of the Mayor concerned about the project that is duly approved by the Governor.

As an initial activity, the team will distribute 3 kilos of rice per family for some 5,821 vulnerable families in Eastern Samar.

The team will then coordinate with the Office of the Municipal Mayor before they do the assessment in the vulnerable barangay.

These selected barangays are deemed geographically isolated and can’t be reached by the provincial government services.

Mutia said that the provincial government is doubling its effort to mitigate the adverse economic effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. (nbq/SDC/PIA-E. Samar)
