PLGU Quirino allots over P4-M for palay support price

CABARROGUIS, Quirino, Sept. 9 (PIA)—The provincial government here will provide a total of P4,301,970.75 as subsidy to farmers through the Palay Marketing Assistance for Legislators and Local Government Units (PALLGU) program of the National Food Authority (NFA).

According to Board Member Jerry Pagbilao, chairperson of the Committee on Appropriation, they have already passed a resolution authorizing Governor Dakila Carlo E. Cua  to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the NFA  Regional Office 02 relative to the provision of financial assistance to farmers under the PALLGU program.

Under the MOA, the provincial government  shall provide a P3.00 as support price in addition to the P19.00 buying price of the NFA,” BM Pagbilao said.

Board Member Pagbilao  said the P4,301,970.75  is the balance of P5 million provided by the provincial government during the dry season last  November 2019 to July 2020.

“The farmers preferred to sell their palay to the private rice traders because their buying price then  was  higher compared to the  buying price of  NFA,” the board member said.

This time according to Pagbilao, the provincial government has made the allocation earlier so that NFA will be able procure more palay this coming harvest season to ensure sufficient supply of rice in the next months.

Earlier, NFA Provincial Manager Ramon D. Palada announced that the different NFA warehouses in Cabarroguis, Maddela, Saguday and Cabarroguis  are continuously procuring palay at P19.00 per kg.

With the additional P3.00 per kilogram from the provincial government, the farmers will be able to sell their palay at the NFA for P22.00 per kilogram.

“They may visit the NFA  buying stations located at  GID 1 Warehouse - San Marcos, Cabarroguis; . Diffun FLGC - Andres Bonifacio, Diffun;  Saguday FLGC - Lapaz, Saguday and  Maddela FLGC - Villa Norte, Maddela for more details,” Provincial Manager Palada said.

It was also announced earlier that the palay procurement from famers was made easier.  They only need to fill up the farmer’s  information sheet  to be able to sell their palay to NFA. (MDCT/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
