PSA-N. Samar hires 536 enumerators to census over 134K households

CATARMAN, Northern Samar, Sept. 7 (PIA) -- Some 536 enumerators were hired by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Northern Samar to census 134,693 estimated households in the province as the Census and Population and Housing in the country kicks off on September 1.

This was learned from PSA Provincial Statistics Officer Julian Gallano during PIA’s Huruhimangraw sa Panginudto radio program over DYSM on August 28.

“Census aims to provide government policy-makers and planners with data on population and housing as basis for their social and economic development plans, policies, and programs,” Gallano said.

He that the census will collect data on household economics, household characteristics and institutional population.

He explained that the household characteristics of population include composition by age, sex, residence, household size, education, housing facilities, and presence of durable goods in the household.

On the other hand, household economics is the production of the goods and services by the members of a household, for their own capital and their own unpaid labor like accommodation, meals, clean clothes and child care, he added.

While institutional population comprises persons who are not members of households such as persons living in military installations, correctional and penal institutions, dormitories of schools and universities, religious institution, hospitals, among others.

With the public health emergency crisis we are facing, PSA North Samar head called on every household to cooperate in answering the questionnaire as the information needed will ensure sound decision-making at all levels both in government and the private sector. (nbq/ldl/tbc/PIA Northern Samar)
