Region 1 prepares for Dagyaw 2020

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Sept. 26 (PIA) -- Lead agencies in Region 1 for the conduct of Dagyaw 2020 kick-started the series of coordination meetings to ensure the success of this year’s regional event.

On Friday, Sept. 25, representatives from the regional offices of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) had their first Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG) Meeting at the DILG Conference Room, this city.

Dagyaw, a Hiligaynon word that directly translates to “togetherness”, was chosen as the event brand because it exemplifies the Filipino spirit or bayanihan.

The event started in 2018 when the Participatory Governance Cluster of the Cabinet (PGC) led the annual regional town hall meetings attended by groups and individuals from government and non-government sectors.

In 2019, by virtue of PGC Resolution No.02-S2019, these townhall meetings were re-launched as Dagyaw: Open Government and Participatory Regional Town Hall Meetings.

This year, the activity shall be re-branded as Dagyaw 2020: Virtual Town Hall Meetings.

“The main goal of the activity is to build mutual trust between the government and the Filipino people by providing an open, neutral, and protected space for dialogue on key national and local issues and plans,” Leslie Isip, Local Government Operations Officer V of the DILG Region 1, said.

She added, “The conduct of Dagyaw 2020 shall be anchored in the objective of the National Task Force Against COVID-19 Sub Task Group on Governance which is to ensure people-centered, clean, technology-enabled, and responsive governance in addressing COVID-19 and to restart social and economic activities.”

During the meeting, a menu of related topics to be discussed in the Region 1 event was presented.

As suggested by PIA-1 Regional Director Jennilyne Role, the regional event will focus on the impact of COVID-19 in people’s livelihood, hence it was agreed that resource speakers will come from the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

The National Economic and Development Authority will also be invited to present the Ilocos Region’s Recovery and Rehabilitation Plan focusing on livelihood component.

At the national level, the first episode of Dagyaw 2020 will be held on Oct. 8 which will tackle education under the new normal.

Meanwhile, the event for Region 1 is tentatively set on Oct. 21 to be participated in online by a minimum of 500 attendees from various sectors. The program shall start at 9 a.m.

Last year, the regional event in the Ilocos was conducted at the Sison Auditoritum in Lingayen, Pangasinan. It was attended by some 800 stakeholders.

On Oct. 9, the members of the RTWG along with the identified resource speakers will meet again for the next coordination meeting. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
