Roxas Night Market to reopen on Sept. 12

DAVAO CITY, Sept. 1 (PIA) - Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio expected that the Roxas Night Market will reopen once more on September 12, 2020.

She said that 25 percent of the total number of vendors, masseurs and security forces will be allowed in the area, where the vendors will take turns in selling food and wares every after two weeks.

Duterte-Carpio ruled based on doctors’ advice that base-line swabbing must be done before the market will be opened to the public.

She said vendors, masseurs, police and military units will undergo tests two days prior to the opening.

“Every time nga naay mosulod nga bag-o, kinahanglan og swabbing.”   (Everytime someone new enters, swabbing is needed)

Duterte-Carpio stressed that the intention of the base line swabbing is to do away with infection among the vendors, masseurs and security forces.

The Task Force Davao wants to tighten more the security in the area.

Inspection of women wearing hijab, and designated parking for motorcycles away from critical areas will be added features in the reopening of the Roxas Night Market.

Duterte-Carpio bared these security measures following the presentation of Colonel Consolito Yecla, commander of the Task Force Davao during the division heads’ virtual meeting this morning at the City Hall.

She said the city will remember tomorrow, September 2, the Roxas Night Market Bombing where they will offer prayers and wreath laying for the dead.  “Everyone is not invited.” (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
