Second COVID-19 lab in Quezon to boost province’s testing capacity

GUMACA, Quezon, Sep 9 (PIA) — Quezon province is expected to increase its testing capacity for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as a new molecular testing laboratory located at RAKKK Prophet Medical Center, Incorporated in this town was granted a license to operate by the Department of Health (DOH).

“Malaki ang maitutulong ng additional molecular laboratory na ito upang mapabilis ang proseso ng swab testing sa mga pasyente at mas marami mas madali nating malalaman ang positibo o hindi, at kung sino ang dapat ilagay sa isolation facility,” DOH -4A Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo said.

[This additional molecular laboratory will be a big help in processing swab tests faster, and for us to determine which patients we need to put in an isolation facility.]

The DOH gave RAKKK its accreditation to establish a molecular laboratory last August, making it the second private health facility in the province to provide COVID-19 swab testing and other diagnostic tests. The DOH Center for Health Development Calabarzon and RAKKK  formally inaugurated the new testing laboratory on September 5.

According to DOH CHD Calabarzon, there is a total of 13 DOH-accredited molecular centers in the region: De La Salle University Medical Center and Ospital ng Imus (Cavite Province); Qualimed Health Network, Laguna Provincial Hospital - San Pablo City District Hospital, San Pablo Colleges Medical Center, Calamba Medical Center and the UPLB COVID-19 Molecular Laboratory (Laguna); Batangas Medical Center, Daniel O. Mercado Medical Center, Mary Mediatrix Medical Center, Philippine Red Cross - Batangas Chapter (Batangas Province); and Lucena United Doctors Hospital and Medical Center and RAKKK Prophet Medical Center (Quezon Province).

“Kailangan nating magsama-sama at magkaroon ng iisang layunin sa pagsugpo sa problemang kinakaharap natin ngayon,” Janairo said in his message, acknowledging the participation of the private sector in the government’s efforts against COVID-19.

[We need to be united in combating this problem we are currently facing.]

The regional health chief added that they will continue to support private health facilities to boost their testing capability.
