TACLOBAN CITY, Sept. 13 (PIA) -- The opening ceremony for the training on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC 1 was conducted on September 11, 2020 for the families of the Inopacan Purging victims in barangays San Juan and Malinao, both of Mahaplag, Leyte.
The 14th Infantry Battalion, 802nd Infantry Brigade of the 8th Infantry Division said this is a complementary training to the agriculture-related trainings earlier started for the families of the Inopacan Purging victims.
This is part of the commitment of the 14th Infantry (AVENGER) Battalion together with the clusters of Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF ELCAC) Leyte particularly the Poverty Reduction and Livelihood Cluster (PRLEC) and the Local Government Unit of Mahaplag, Leyte, to continue to pursue collaborative efforts to facilitate the delivery of basic services to the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA) and Conflict Affected Areas (CAA) in order to transform them into developed and resilient communities.
The opening program was facilitated by the 14th Infantry (AVENGER) Battalion under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Roberto B. Obaob, Commanding Officer, together with the Mahaplag Municipal Task Force-ELCAC led by its Chair, Mayor Daisy A. Lleve, represented by PESO Manager Jan Rex Yunzal and TESDA Leyte, Co-Lead agency of PRLEC represented by Ms. Vilma T. Arteche, Supervising TESD Specialist, Mr. Hubert M. Rodriguez, Head Trainor of Santonio Maritime and Technological Institute (SMTI) and Mr. Nilgen G. Bacoto, OIC of Javier Vocational Training School (JVTS).
The Opening Ceremony of SMAW NC I was witnessed by Hon. Arnolfo B. Lenteria, Punong Barangay/Chairperson Barangay Task Force – ELCAC, Brgy. San Juan, Hon. Fabian Abenoja, Barangay Councilor, Brgy. Malinao both of Mahaplag, Leyte, Hon. Jose T. Amarado III, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) President and Hon. Lerma Mae B. Cabachete, SK Chairperson, Brgy. Malinao.
To recall during the 2019 Commemoration on September 29, a Special Convergence Mission was conducted by the Regional Task Force 8-ELCAC, Leyte Province Task Force- ELCAC, Baybay City Task Force-ELCAC, Inopacan Task Force-ELCAC and Mahaplag Task Force-ELCAC, attended by no less than National Task Force-ELCAC Vice Chair and National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, Jr., and RTF8-ELCAC and Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security for Eastern Visayas, Secretary Eduardo del Rosario.
The convergence called for the whole-of-nation approach in helping the families of the victims of the Inopacan Atrocity who after 34 years continue to grieve for their love ones, fathers, husbands, brothers and who remained loyal to the government despite what happened to their love ones.
Since then, various interventions were provided to the families who were organized into seven farmer organizations, provided trainings and financial assistance to start their livelihood projects. It is a moving on time for these families as they strengthen their resolve never again will they be victimized by the NPA terrorists. (PIA-8)
