LUNA, Apayao, Oct. 4(PIA) -- The provincial government and the other education stakeholders assured support to ensure that the alternative learning initiatives of the Department of Education Schools Division Office of Apayao will be delivered to the learners in the province amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our dear parents, I assure you that this matter is being given due and utmost attention by the various stakeholders of the education sector which includes the provincial government of Apayao,” Governor Eleanor Bulut-Begtang Begtang said in her message during the DepEd Apayao Oplan Balik Eskwela Virtual Kick-off on Friday, October 2.
In the event dubbed as “Insuring Learning through Localized and Orchestrated Initiatives, Bayanihan, the Iy-Apayao Way”, the Governor committed to extend financial and other types of assistance to the division to ensure the meaningful implementation of the learning continuity plan for the Iapayao learners.
The provincial government initially committed to share an amount of P5 million for the hiring of para-teachers who will deliver alternative learning modalities even to the remotest sitios and barangays in the province.
She said the para teachers are now ready for deployment in coordination with the DepEd and the other stakeholders in the municipalities and the barangays as well.
The provincial government and the Office of Congressman Elias Bulut Jr. gave school supplies and information technology equipment such as laptops and printers to some schools to be used in the new normal of learning.
A portion of the 2020 funds have been earmarked for the procurement of additional IT and other learning equipment so that the digitized modules shall reach school children especially of those families who cannot afford the now necessities of computers, tablets and other gadgets.
The municipal mayors thru League of Municipalities of the Philippines - Apayao Chapter President, Mayor Hector Reuel Pascua of Pudtol also assured of support to ensure that the learning of students will not be hindered by the health crisis.
Pascua said that the different LGUs have provided funds for the different schools particularly in the reproduction and distribution of the modules for the learners in their communities.
Liga ng mga Barangay President Joeffrey Blas also expressed support to the various efforts of the DepEd to the new learning modalities. He said the barangay officials will be actively participating in the delivery of the printed modules from the schools to the learners especially in the far flung barangays and sitios.
During the virtual kick off, DepEd Apayao Superintendent Sally Ullalim assured readiness of the implementation of the new learning modalities to ensure the continued education of the more than 28,000 learners who enrolled in public elementary and high schools in the in the province.
