Caraycaray, Catmon Bridge detours in Biliran now passable for heavy vehicles

NAVAL, Biliran, Oct. 28 (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways - Biliran District Engineering Office (DPWH-BDEO) issued the latest travel advisory allowing heavy vehicles/equipment to pass the Caraycaray and Catmon Bridge detours at the Biliran-Naval section effective 6 a.m. of October 27, 2020.

Biliran District Engineer David P. Adongay Jr. issued the latest travel advisory on October 27 informing motorists and travelers that the bridge detours are now open as well to heavy weight vehicles allowing the use of the Biliran-Naval section of the Biliran province circumferential road.

Backfilling ang restoration works were done with the contractor LM Baltonado Construction in coordination with the DPWH-BDEO, said Engr. Adongay.

The DPWH-BDEO travel advisory issued on October 26, 2020, prohibited heavy vehicles/equipment from using the Caraycaray and Catmon Bridge detours due to scouring of approaches and damage of the detour as a result of the continues rains brought by typhoon Quinta last October 25.

Moreover, the Naval-Caibiran Cross Country Road, particularly at Sitio Macalpi, Brgy. Cabibihan, Caibiran, Biliran, remains impassable for heavy weight vehicles and equipment due to the settlement of the roadway due to days of continuous heavy rains.

Only light weight vehicles such as motorcycles, SUV, AUV, multicabs, service vehicles, and vans are allowed to pass the Macalpi road section of the Naval-Caibiran Cross Country Road, Adongay said. (ldl/mlt/PIA Biliran )
