Cordillera RTF deploys IMTs to support COVID-19 response in Benguet

BAGUIO CITY, Oct. 30(PIA) - - The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDRRMC) Chairperson directed the deployment of Regional Incident Management Teams (IMTs) to the DRRM offices of the provincial government of Benguet and the municipal LGUs of Tuba and Itogon  to provide technical assistance  in the management of their  rising corona virus disease cases.

CRRRMC  Chairman and Office of Civil Defense Regional Director Albert Mogol outlined that the move is in line with the Regional Task Force COVID -19’s Oplan “TUGON” (Tuba – Itogon) that was set due to the sudden increase in  COVID-19 cases in the two municipalities this month.

“Due to the alarming increase of COVID – 19 in the province of Benguet, particularly in the mining communities of Itogon operated by the Benguet Corporation thru contractors; and ISRI (Itogon – Suyoc Resources Inc.), as well as in Philex Mining Corporation in Tuba, the Cordillera Regional DRRM Council will deploy regional IMTs (Incidence Management Team) to assist the provincial government of Benguet and municipal LGUs of Tuba and Itogon,” Mogol stated.

“Side by side with the provincial and municipal IMTs, they will monitor and recommend immediate actions that need to be undertaken in coordination with the LGUs. This is to ensure faster coordination and action of the Response Cluster member agencies”, he added.

The CRDRRMC Regional IMT members from the Response Cluster member agencies, including OCD, DSWD, Department of Health, Police Regional Office – Cordillera, Bureau of Fire Protection, Dept. of Public Works and Highways and attached units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the region are all completers of a full five - course IMT Training.

OCD – CAR also already conducted a pre - deployment meeting to the Regional IMTs to provide situational report and backgrounder on Oplan TUGON as well as for operational planning.

Meanwhile for Oplan TUGON, Mogol earlier led the inspection of possible government facilities in Itogon that can be converted as temporary quarantine and isolation facilities.  DPWH – CAR headed by Regional Director Khaddafy Tanggol is now preparing the work and financial plans for the identified facilities that include DENR and DepEd- owned structures.

As of Oct. 26 report submitted to the CRDRRMC Emergency operations Center, Itogon has 227 confirmed COVID – 19 cases with 168 active cases while Tuba has a total of 191 confirmed cases with 156 active cases.

Cases are still expected to increase with the continuing contact tracing and expanded testing being conducted with the assistance of the NTF thru the  Bases Conversion Development Authority. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
