BANGUED, Abra, Oct. 30(PIA) – The indigenous peoples (IP) of Abra celebrated IP Month highlighted with the “Obaya” ritual and oath taking of the new sets of officers for the Council of IP Mandatory Representatives.
Part of the ritual was an indigenous prayer called “Sangasang” led by a Muyadan tribe from Manabo imploring for the whole province to be protected from any kind of disease and to avert the further spread of the Corona Virus Disease.
In the activity spearheaded by the provincial office of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), the new set of officers of the Council of IPMR were sworn in.
Provincial IPMR Romero Daoaten, the Council Chairperson; San Juan IPMR Michael Hal, Vice-chairman, Peñarubbia IPMR Constante Caoagas, secretary; Luba IPMR Josefa Duyao, Treasurer; Lagangilang IPMR Verinoca Villamor, Auditor and Tubo IPMR, business manager, took their oath before NCIP-Cordillera Regional Director Manuel Jaramilla. They committed to protect and promote the welfare of their own IP communities.
Winners of the NCIP-Abra- initiated original song writing and poster making competitions for the IP youth where they exhibited their talents and skills in music and graphics, were also announced during the IP Day celebration in Oct. 21.
Pamela Culangan from Brgy. Tiempo, Tubo won in the songwriting competition while the winner in the poster making contest is Dominador Jr. Gubbing from Brgy. Agsimao in Tineg.
Jaramilla lauded NCIP-Abra personnel led by Genesis Quiblado for their untiring commitment in delivering basic services not only to Tinggians but to all Abrenians.
“NCIP-Abra is one of the top performing provincial offices of NCIP here in Cordillera and let us stay committed towards our common goals in unity regardless of our tribal affiliations,” Jaramilla stressed. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
