DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 20 (PIA) -- Negros Oriental’s record of active COVID-19 cases climbed to 31 with the addition of six new confirmed cases yesterday.
Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion announced this in a press conference at the BOM Office, Perdices Coliseum.
The new cases are logged in Bayawan City, Sta. Catalina, Zamboanguita, and Guilngan City with one case each and Dumaguete City with two cases.
Covid-19 patient NegOr-Cov-218 is a 21-year-old female in Bayawan City with no history of travel.
She was admitted in a hospital there due to recurring fever.
She was swabbed and her results confirming she is positive for the virus came out on Oct. 18.
Contact tracing is ongoing and she is staying in a local government unit (LGU) designated isolation facility.
Covid-19 patient NegOr-Cov-219 is an 83-year-old male in Sta. Catalina who was admitted in a hospital in Bayawan City due to fever and lack of appetite.
He also had no travel history outside the province.
He has now recovered and turned asymptomatic but still stays at the LGU isolated facility.
Contact tracing for the individuals who had direct contact with the two patients is still ongoing.
On the other hand, NegOr-Cov-221 is a 77-year old male In Guihulngan City.
He is a Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and was transferred to an isolation unit inside the custodial facility there and is not allowed to take any visitors.
Meanwhile, the latest confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection in Zamboanguita and Dumaguete City are direct contacts of other previously reported Covid-19 positive patients.
NegOr-Cov-220 is a 44-year-old male in Zamboanguita who lives in a compound with other individuals who also contracted the virus.
They are NegOr Covid patients 211, 212, 213,214, and 215.
Aside from this, he is also a direct contact of NegOr-Cov-198.
NegOr-Cov-222 and NegOr-Cov-223 are 28-year old and 29-year old male and female residents of Dumaguete City who are both direct contacts of NegOr-Cov-195.
They both manifest mild symptoms related to COVID-19.
Both of them, including the new case in Zamboanguita, are now confined inside the isolation facility of the provincial government inside the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH).
With this update, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province has reached 223 with 31 active cases, six deaths, and 186 recoveries.
The latest recoveries are NegOr-Cov-189, NegOr-Cov-190, and NegOr-Cov-195.
NegOr-Cov-187, NegOr-Cov-190, NegOr-Cov-191 were identified as Authorized Person Outside Residence (APORs) who went to Metro Manila on Oct. 1 and returned on Oct. 3.
Later, they were found to be positive with the virus after they developed mild symptoms related to COVID-19.
Additional cases of COVID-19 infection were reported and they were identified to be direct contacts of these individuals.
Asked if the increase in the number of active COVID-19 positive cases in Negros Oriental would affect the province's community quarantine status, Estacion said it will depend on the assessment of the National IATF.
In a separate press briefing, the assistant provincial health officer said the situation in the province remains manageable if the direct contacts are traced and contained.
“If na-contain nato tanan nato positive, I think we can manage. Nakita nato karon na active ang lugar (sa contact tracing) (If we can contain all our positive cases, I think can manage. We can see that cities and municipalities are also active on contact tracing). It’s not only the provincial contact tracing team but we go parallel, hand-in-hand with the contact tracing team of Zamboanguita, Bacong, and City Health Office of Dumaguete. We help each other,” she said.
“Wala ko nag-conclude but nakita nako na we are almost done with the contact tracing. Ubay-ubay na jud ang negative (I can say we are almost done with the contact tracing. A lot of contacts also turned out negative),” she added. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
