NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur, Oct. 31 (PIA) – After eight days, Ilocos Sur lost its status of being the only COVID-free province in the Ilocos Region as two males from this municipality tested positive of the coronavirus.
The Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur (PGIS) Action Center confirmed on Friday, October 30 the sixth and seventh confirmed COVID-19 positive cases in Narvacan town, which are the 75th and 76th recorded cases in the province.
Both patients are asymptomatic and currently in the provincial isolation facility.
Patient IS-C75 is 46-year-old from Barangay Dasay who has a travel history to the National Capital Region and with limited contacts.
The local government of Narvacan imposed community containment strategy in certain sitios in Barangay Dasay: extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ) in Sitio Villa Maria, classified as the critical zone; modified enhanced community quarantine in Sitio Ambakol and Centro, classified as the containment zone; and general community quarantine in Sitio Bukkalan and Bantugo, classified as the buffer zone.
On the other hand, patient IS-C76 is a 24-year-old from Barangay Sulvec with no travel history, an authorized person outside residence (APOR) undertaking a high-risk profession and with extensive contacts.
The local government of Narvacan also imposed EECQ along the Sulvec Port Road, with closure of roads from Bulanos Bridge to the Narvacan Port.
It is likewise prohibited to gather, loiter, or travel along the areas of Bulanos Bridge.
All households in the above mentioned areas shall strictly adhere to their respective quarantine classifications and guidelines and will be placed under strict monitoring.
The Narvacan COVID-19 Task Force, in coordination with the PGIS, Department of Health, and the concerned barangay officials, are currently conducting strict measures in mitigating the spread of the virus and contact tracing.
In an interview this morning, Governor Ryan Luis Singson asked for cooperation from the public, especially the APORs, to the border protocols and documentary requirements the provincial government is requiring as these are important in fighting the COVID-19 and maintaining the low number of COVID-19 cases in the province.
He also highlighted the effort of all the provincial governments in Region 1 to come up with unified guidelines for the entry of residents and APORs in each province. (JCR/AMB/PIA Ilocos Sur)
