CALOOCAN CITY, Oct. 31 (PIA) -- Neclace air purifiers are not endorsed or recommended by the Department of Health (DOH) in place of masks for protection against COVID-19 due to lack of scientific evidence on its efficacy, a statement released on Friday by the agency said.
"The DOH clarifies that it is NOT ENDORSING the use of necklace air purifiers that claim to kill bacteria or viruses or protect from COVID-19," the DOH said.
"While these devices do not pose ay harm, the DOH currently does not recommend using these devices due to lack of evidence of efficacy," it added.
To recall, there were earlier claims that portable air purifiers can to remove from the user's personal space certain airborne pollutants that include viruses, dust and bacteria.
The DOH, however, emphasized that the best weapon against the spread of COVID-19 is still following minimum health standards such as frequent washing of hands, wearing face masks and observing physical distancing. (PIA NCR)
