DPWH finishes construction of quarantine facilities for health workers in S. Leyte

MAASIN CITY, Oct. 29 (PIA) -- Work on quarantine units intended for health workers fighting Covid-19 in the province has been completed, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) field office here reported.

“These facilities are solely for use by doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals here in Southern Leyte,” District Engineer Ma. Margarita Junia, head of the Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (SLDEO), said in a press release.

She added, “I’m happy that we are able to address not just the need for quarantine facilities by Covid-19 patients but also the need for an isolation facility or dormitory of our medical frontliners or the so-called modern-day heroes.”

Inside the compound of Salvacion Oppus Yniguez Memorial Provincial Hospital (SOYMPH) in barangay Dongon now sits a three-storey building ready to accommodate nurses and doctors as their halfway house after their tour of duty, while another one-storey facility stands at Barangay Combado, right behind the Urban Health Center.

Gov. Damian Mercado led the inauguration ceremony held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Dongon provincial hospital attended by other officials of the province, DPWH personnel, SOYMPH medical staff, and representatives of Tingog Party-list.

The two structures, in Dongon and Combado, with a total allocation of P15 million, have eight beds divided by wooden partitions equipped with air-conditioning unit, kitchen area, dining hall, and common toilet facilities, according to the DPWH-SLDEO report.

The funds for their construction was sourced as Covid assistance to the province by Tingog Party-list, Gov. Mercado announced during the simple 59th founding anniversary of the province July 1 this year.  (ldl/mmp/PIA-Southern Leyte)
