PNP chief Police General Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan led the launching of ‘PADYAKabuhayan’ at Camp Crame in Quezon City, wherein some 50 mountain bikes were given, together with Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officials Undersecretary Bernard P. Olalia and Undersecretary Esther Margaux J. Uson.

PNP Director for Police Community Relations PBGEN Rhodel O Sermonia said that PADYAKabuhayan is a new component of Barangay COVID Defense (BACOD), a PNP's community relations initiative that aims to help workers whose jobs are affected by the limited operations of public transport induced by the lockdown.

According to the PNP, the bicycles will be given to the working masses to provide them alternative means of transportation on their way to work. This will also help them save the money supposedly intended for transport fares. With the money saved, Filipino workers can buy more food and other necessities for their families.

The initial numbers of bicycles given away to workers were made possible through the strong partnership of the PNP with various stakeholders and individuals like the Filipino Indian Commerce and Welfare Society, Inc. (FICWSI) that donated the 50 bicycles.

Likewise, the PNP said that PADYAKabuhayan demonstrates the compassionate heart of the police towards Filipino workers already suffering from the economic impact of the lockdown. (PNP/PIA-NCR)
