SAN FERNANDO CITY, Oct. 31 (PIA) – As of 10 a.m. this Saturday, Typhoon “Rolly”, with international name ‘Goni’, continues to maintain its strength as it moves towards Bicol Region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
As of 1 p.m. today, alert status of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Emergency Operations Center was already raised at red level.
With typhoon storm warning signal number three is up in the Catanduanes province, the provinces of Pangasinan and La Union in the Ilocos Region, along with the rest of Region IV-A, Central Luzon, parts of Cagayan Region, and Visayas Island are already under signal number one.
Eye of the Typhoon “Rolly” was located, based on all available data, at 480 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes with a maximum sustained winds of 215 kilometer per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 265 kilometer per hour.
It is forecasted to pass very close to Catanduanes, Calaguas Island and mainland Camarines provinces tomorrow morning and make a landfall over Polilio Islands and Quezon area tomorrow afternoon.
After crossing Central Luzon, the center of “Rolly” is forecasted to exit the mainland Luzon in landmass on Monday morning.
Starting early tomorrow, Typhoon “Rolly” is expected to bring heavy to intense rainfall in Metro Manila, Bicol Region, Central Luzon, and the rest of southern Luzon.
Moderate to heavy rains is expected in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region and the rest of Luzon.
Meanwhile, “Atsani," another tropical system being monitored, weakened into a tropical depression.
As of 10 a.m., its center was estimated at 1,655 kilometers east of Southern Luzon.
Office of the Civil Defense in the Ilocos Regional Director Eugene Cabrera encouraged all the concerned Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (PDRRMOs) to conduct necessary preparedness for response actions.
A Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment Meeting was conducted to harmonize hydrometeorological hazards response and COVID-19 response operations.
The public health teams of the Department of Health are on standby for possible deployment while health emergency management teams of the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City, Ilocos Norte; Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City, La Union; and the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City are on a 24-hour duty.
Meanwhile, the regional and district DRRM teams of the Department of Public Works and Highways are also activated.
The Police Regional Office ensures the readiness of their Search, Rescue and Response equipment and supplies to support operations and prepositioned their search and rescue assets.
In La Union, the PDRRM Operations Center, along with all the municipal DRRM operations center, are already activated and has issued a red alert warning earlier today.
In Ilocos Norte, the PDRRMC is enforcing a “No Fishing Policy” when there is a thunderstorm, gale warning, typhoons or adverse sea weather condition.
Local rescue teams are activated while emergency and response equipment and resources are also on standby for immediate deployment.
Barangay health workers are also assigned to monitor the health condition of vulnerable groups such as elderlies living alone, persons with disabilities, children, and pregnant women. (JCR/AMB/JDS/PIA La Union)
