CALOOCAN CITY, October 2, (PIA) --The City Government of San Juan, on Thursday, October 1, conducted a ceremonial turn-over of e-learning packages to parent and teacher-representatives, that will be used for the distance learning system in the coming schoolyear.
Mayor Francis Zamora led the turn-over of packages consisting of laptops, tablets and pocket wifi, was witnessed by Secretary Gringo Honasan of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and was held at the San Juan City Hall Atrium.
According to the mayor, all elementary and high school students enrolled in San Juan’s public schools including students of special Education (SPED) will be provided each with tablets.
On the other hand, higher grade level students of Pinaglabanan Elementary School will receive laptops and tablets with pocket WIFI as part of the DICT’s Digital Learning project.
“All elementary and high school students from all other public schools in San Juan will receive one (1) tablet each,” Zamora said.
The mayor also announced that wifi connections will be installed in public places and a dedicated wifi will also be installed in homes of public school students through the city government’s partnership with DICT.
The partnership towards a “Smart San Juan” started in early in July 2019.ong before the presence of COVID-19, when the city government and then newly-installed DICT Secretary mutually agreed to make San Juan the pilot city for the Free Wi-Fi For All Program, and the Pinaglabanan Elementary School as the pilot school of the digital learning project.
“We are very fortunate to have forged a partnership with the DICT. These programs will truly benefit the San Juaneños especially during this pandemic. San Juan City public school students are very lucky to have the DICT providing their needs for online schooling”, Zamora said.
“Last year, DICT provided us with “free WIFI for all” and now it is the public school students’ turn to benefit from their benevolent hearts, so on behalf of all the students, their parents and teachers, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to Secretary Gringo Honasan and the rest of the officials of the DICT for this wonderful gift to our Kabataang San Juaneños,” Zamora said.
