DUMAGUETE CITY, Oct. 31 (PIA) -- Two farmers' cooperatives in Negros Oriental received cash grants from the World Bank (WB) with a combined amount of P6-M to help boost the production of their agricultural products which are essential for food security amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo handed over the P4-M cash grant to Brgy. Liptong Small Coconut Farmers Association (BLISCOFA) and another P2-M cash grant to Canlaon City Multi-Purpose Cooperative in a simple turnover ceremony yesterday at his office inside the Provincial Capitol.
BLISCOFA's primary product is virgin coconut oil while the Canlaon City Multi-Purpose Cooperative’s main project is the production of native chickens.
Degamo congratulated the said cooperatives and encouraged them to use the financial aid properly.
“Manghinaot ko na inyo kining palambuon. Manghinaot ko daghan pang mga miyembro sa inyo kooperatiba ang malipay gikan karon adlawa hangtod kanus-a nato ma-consume ang maong budget para mapalambo ang atong organisasyon (I hope this helps your organization to prosper. May this bring happiness to a lot of your members),” the governor said.
BLISCOFA Official Edilberta Sogocio and Canlaon City Multi-Purpose Cooperative Manager Norberto Tamayo expressed their gratitude to the provincial government for guiding them during the process of applying for the cash grant and to the World Bank for providing them the said financial aid.
“Dako kaayo ning tabang ang inyong gihatag kanamo ug sa among miyembro aron kami magmalambuon aning among proyekto na paghimo ug virgin coconut oil na karon pod gikahinaman pod ni kay usa pod ni kontribusyon na maka-control or makaiwas ta aning Covid na atong gi-atubang karon (This is a big help for us and our members. This will boost the production of virgin coconut oil which is believed to help protect us from Covid),” Sogocio remarked.
“Karon adlaw among gidawat ang hinabang gikan sa aton Governor para sa atong project na native chicken. Kini amo ipasalig gikan karon adlawa na kining kwarta gihatag kanamo amo gayud gamiton sa insakto na pag-implementar sa amo proyekto (As we receive this financial help from the Governor which is intended for the advancement of our native chicken raising project, we assure you that we will use the funds properly and solely for the implementation of this project),” Tamayo said.
Provincial Agriculturist Nestor Villaflores explained the grant is given under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) of World Bank in support to local initiatives on food productivity and income enhancement of coconut farmers.
The national government and the provincial government also have a counterpart in the program.
Villaflores said the national government has given P1.2-M funding aid while the provincial government also provided P1.3-M cash aid to complement the P6-M cash grant given by World Bank.
Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Jacinto Silot disclosed there is a second tranche of the cash grant but they must implement the project first and liquidate their expenditures before they will receive the second tranche. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
