BASCO, Batanes, Nov. 4 (PIA) - - The preparations of the Ivatans for the expected landfall of Severe Tropical Storm "Siony" in the island province of Batanes tonight or early tomorrow is now on full swing.
Governor Marilou H. Cayco said they have already readied their heavy equipment, food and non-food items, and the rescue groups and are now on standby mode in case needed for deployment.
She also said residents were already advised to secure their homes by tying them down and putting wind shutters to cushion the impact of the severe tropical storm.
"We distributed ropes to the municipalities and barangays to be given to the households, especially those houses that are made out of light materials," Cayco said.
Before the typhoon hits the province, Cayco said, they have distributed relief goods composed ofinclude 10 kilos of rice and a kilo of pork to each houseold.
"Our newly built evacuation center is now ready in case there is a need to conduct evacuation. We also reminded the public to always observe the minimum health standards such as wearing of face mask and physical distancing in case there will evacuation," the governor added.
She also said they are now monitoring ports to ensure that no one ventures out into the sea as strong gale force is now being experienced brought by the typhoon.
Ivatans are known to be resilient and well adapted to weather disturbances, however, Cayco said they still need to do necessary preparations to ensure safety of lives, limbs and properties. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
